Footy and fashion snuggle up
Few wives would be happy to see their husband cuddling up to a beautiful model but for Bruug designer and WAG Natasha Butler it’s all in a day’s work.
For her label’s latest campaign shoot the stylish creative plucked her West Coast Eagles-star hubby Sam Butler off the field and put him in front of the camera to model with Woodvale beauty Abbey Gelmi.
Following in the footsteps of high- profile models Olivia Donaldson and Samara Tugwell, Gelmi and Butler are the newest faces of Bruug, starring in the label’s forthcoming autumn/winter campaign, which was shot at the Perth Mint.
“Abbey is just the best, ” Natasha told AAA Weekend of her decision to appoint Gelmi as the face of her brand.
“I could not have picked a better Bruug girl — she’s just perfect. She’s funny, easygoing, so hardworking and has a great sense of humour. She’s the full package.”
Being asked to feature in the campaign was a dream come true for Gelmi, who has been a devotee of Bruug since its inception.
“I’ve been such a fan of Bruug for so long and particularly to be able to work with Tash, who is someone I really admire for what she’s done in the WA fashion industry, I was really honoured, ” the 24-year-old model said.
While Gelmi is a deft hand when it comes to photo shoots, her male counterpart for the day wasn’t quite as comfortable in front of the camera.
“(Sam) was such a good sport, ” Gelmi said.
“The poor thing had a really tough training session that morning and then had to come in the afternoon and go straight into make-up, which I think was a foreign scenario for him.”
No stranger to working with professional athletes, Gelmi is a keen sports fan and has just scored her dream job in the newsroom at Fox Sports in Sydney.
She relocated to NSW last month to take on the role.
“I’m really excited; it’s a bit scary but it’s a great challenge for me to go over there and see what I can do, ” Gelmi said before the move.
